Note To Self…
Dear Mav,
Please do yourself a favor and remember your most recent experience of moving.
I say this with utmost love: “You are a terrible mover!” Um, ahem. What I mean is, you really have no talent whatsoever for estimating the feat of moving. Accept this reality and adjust accordingly. Seriously, you’ve got problems!
Thanks.
Love,
Yourself

I hate moving. I mean, I seeeeeeeriously loathe the chore. The sorting of possessions, the trips to goodwill, the packing of likes with likes, the scrapping of packing in an orderly fashion, the throwing of everything else into boxes, the packing of boxes, the loading of trucks, the driving cross town or cross country, the unloading of trucks, the piling of boxes, the climbing over of boxes, the not-having-time-to-fully-unpack-so-you-rifle-through-to-find-what-you-need-for-the-day of boxes, the finding where to put everything, the tenth round of sorting and good-willing, the cursing about trying to unpack the “everything else” box–I find it all utterly and ridiculously exhausting!

Sadly, this loathing does not keep me in one place; I have moved about once a year for the last 12 years with a few exceptions in there. This time around I moved from my own apartment into a rented room. Not only did I need to relocate my possessions, but I had to par down and purge what was no longer necessary or could not fit. Now I have the essentials and some memorabilia. Now it is all neat in boxes.

I dearly hope that I learn a lesson from this last move and do things a little differently next time. First, I will begin the task MUCH earlier. Second, I will break it down into smaller chunks–hopefully more feasible as I will have maintained. Third, I will strive toward a more simplified life in general, thus accumulating less over all and therefore reducing the ultimate amount of “treasures” needing boxing and moving.

Well, a new year, a new Mav, right?! What are your moving hates or habits? Any words of wisdom for this miserable mover?
