Mav’s Quick and Tasty Cinnamon Rolls
I love cinnamon rolls! I have a place in my heart for all the different kinds: the orange-icing-refrigerator-from-the-can ones; the gargantuan ones I get at that place in the airport or mall; the make-the-night-before-and-let-rise-to-bake-early-in-the-morning ones; but my most favorite are the super quick roll-your-own-Bisquick ones. Besides how easy they are, I love the contrast of the salty dough and sugary filling/topping.

These beauties went from concept to first bite in less than an hour!
I started off making a batch of Bisquick biscuit dough. You should probably follow the directions on the box since I just dumped some mix in a bowl and added milk until the consistency was “right.” I have no clue how to give you precise directions in how to recreate this so I am sure if you make the biscuit recipe you will get the same result. You just want to add a little extra of the mix so your dough will be workable to roll out on a floured surface like so:

After rolling out, spread liberally with butter...

...then sprinkle a healthy portion of cinnamon & sugar...

...Roll the dough like so and grease your pan; this is an 8"x11" glass pan

Cut into 2-ish inch pieces to yeild 12 rolls. Arrange in the pan and admire the pretty swirly designs you've created.

While your spirals are chillin' in the pan and before you put them in to bake, mix up some brown sugar crumble to go on top: butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and a wee bit o' biscuit mix (I used too much mix here; use less and your crumbles will melt into caramelly deliciousness and seep into all the swirling crevices of your cinnamon rolls...*drool

Put the brown-sugar-cinnamon-butter-mess-of-deliciousness on top of the unbaked cinnamon rolls and bake at 450 degrees until done. Start with 8 minutes and add more as needed. Done is a relative term here, I like slightly less than baked; the crumble-stuff should be melted and bubbling.

Serve up a hot roll with a tall glass of cold milk and....mmmm...Oh sorry, what? *wiping crumbs from mouth I was, uh, just testing the product, yeah.
So next time you’re in the mood to whip up a yummy home-made breakfast treat, try this out. Here is what I’ve pieced together as a “working recipe.”
Mav’s Quick and Tasty Cinnamon Rolls
Dough:
4 cups Bisquick Biscuit mix (plus extra for flouring surface)
1 & 1/2 cups Milk (may need more or less for just right consistency)
Combine mix and milk; knead dough until all mix has been incorporated (about 10 times; don’t over knead or dough will become tough and too elastic-y). Flour surface with mix and turn dough onto surface. Roll dough with rolling pin until about a 1/4 of an inch thick. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Filling:
Cinnamon & sugar
1/2 stick butter, softened
Spread butter evenly onto rolled out dough. Sprinkle cinnamon & sugar mix liberally over buttered surface. Roll dough so you have a long roll. Cut roll into equal sized pieces; this recipe should yield 12 rolls. Grease 8″ x 11″ pan and place rolls into greased pan.
Topping:
1 stick Butter (softened, not melted)
1 cup Brown sugar
1tbsp Cinnamon
3 tbsp Bisquick mix
Mix all ingredients together. Put on top of unbaked cinnamon rolls. Bake rolls at 450 degrees for 8-12 min, until sides are just golden and topping is melted and bubbling.
Enjoy with a glass of cold milk, a cup of coffee, or a mug of your favorite hot drink. Share with family and friends for a cozy breakfast treat
