Mav Trivia #143: I love aprons!
Yes, it’s true. I absolutely, totally, 100% LOVE wearing aprons.
I think my passion for apron wearing started when I spent my high school summers working as a kitchen aid at summer camp (how this came to be is an entirely other blog you may find here someday). Washing dishes for 150+ people three ti
mes a day most definitely necessitates the wearing of an apron…or three. I’m sure we created at least a load of aprons to wash each day. See, one apron wasn’t good enough because one would still be quite wet in the mid-abdominal area from all the spray and splash of the sinks and dishwasher. Two was definitely better. My personal preference was the full apron plus a double-layer of aprons folded over and tied around the middle so as to provide the most possible absorption in the target area. The result? A delightfully dry mid-section post clean-up!
These days while I’m not doing dishes for 200 people, I still have a fondness for apron wearing. I have a sturdy industrial strength apron for my gardening. I have a moisture resistant “everyday” kitchen apron that I use for cooking and washing up–well, one is for kitchen chores and another is for other household cleaning (these aprons are the absolute best in terms of adjustable strap, pocket quantity and placement and overall coverage; sadly I can’t find them anywhere again since buying them a few years ago). I have a fantastically cute half apron with huge pockets that are perfect for holding keys, quarters and dryer sheets for laundry days (which is most useful for apartment life when washer and dryer are outside in the parking garage). And I have a flirty little dress-up apron for hosting dinner parties and other fabulous soirees.
I realized that I have begun to collect aprons. More and more shops are selling darling little vintage-style aprons in cute, bright, patterns and colors. And, while we’re on the subject of Mav Trivia, yes, I have in fact left my abode and gone to the store still wearing my apron!

Great post and super cute aprons at those links! I would love to wear aprons, but have never found the right fit. The idea of keeping my midriff dry while washing and wiping floury hands on my apron while baking is so appealing. The problem is my…topheaviness, which always pulls on the neck strap giving me a sore neck. Let me know if you ever find a full apron that would alleviate this problem.
